Webinar: Intro to Social Media for Translators

Webinar Title: Introduction to Social Media for Translators
Presenters: Eve Bodeux and Corinne McKay
Date and time: Thursday, February 10, 2011, 12 noon U.S. Eastern Time
Length: 1 hour

Description: You hear about Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and blogging all the time, but do you need to be active on them for success in your freelance translation business? What are the benefits of participation in these forums and what are the constraints? In this webinar we will discuss the business reasons why freelance translators should (or should not) consider getting involved in these social media forums, as well as a brief introduction to getting started on each platform.

This webinar is intended for individuals who have little or no experience in social media. By the end of the webinar, you will have a clear idea of the pros and cons of each of these social media services, how they can benefit your business and which of these social media services may be a good fit for your business strategy.

Eve and Corinne will take live questions at the end of the webinar and will answer additional questions on Corinne’s blog and the Speaking of Translation blog.

The cost of the webinar is US $40.

For more information and to register, go to Corinne’s registration page for the webinar and scroll down to the bottom of the page, or to Eve’s registration page for the webinar and scroll down to the bottom of the page.

Hope to see you there!

[Note: We had a request from a listener to make it so that each file can be directly downloaded (right click/download as file); however, I can't seem to get this to work through our MP3 host (libsyn.com) - if any of you have ideas how to fix this, please let us know! Thanks! Eve]

Episode 5: Leverage Payment Methods to Keep the Most Money in Your Own Pocket

In our fifth episode of Speaking of Translation, we discuss how to use various payment methods to your advantage, keeping the most amount of money possible - rather than losing it to fees and exchange rates. We discuss pros and cons of payment by check, ACH, wire transfer, PayPal and companies that facilitate currency exchange for those of us with international clients.

Upcoming Episode: Tune in, in the next few weeks when we will post Episode 6, a discussion on Free and Open Source Software resources for translators. We have already recorded it and would like to get it out to you before the end of October.

Future Topics: We are also interested in what our listeners would like to hear about next on Speaking of Translation. We have been throwing some ideas around such as future episodes about opening bank accounts abroad to assist with processing payments from overseas clients or how to balance home and work life, especially with small children (you may hear Eve’s son Axel once or twice in the background of Episode 5 - the studio is not sound proof!). If you’d like to hear about either of those issues or have your own suggestions, please let us know via comments.

Thanks and happy listening!
